Beachcomber Inspires a Healthy Glow

Our skin goes through a lot. It is exposed to the elements every day, it gets covered in makeup or creams, and is affected by the things we consume. This makes it very important that we care for it as best we can, whether it’s through what we consume or the products we use to clean it. Incorporating steps to protect and nourish your skin is essential to maintain a healthy glow!

Sun Protection

One of the biggest causes of skin damage and ageing is over exposure to the sun. The more time we spend in strong UV rays, there is an increased risk of wrinkling, age spots, and other skin issues. Include the following to prevent sun damage:

  1. Use SPF

Using a sunscreen of at least 15 SPF is essential to protect your skin against the UV rays. Regular reapplication is required for ongoing protection, especially if you’re swimming or sweating!

  1. Reduce Exposure to the Sun

While SPF is great for protecting against the sun, it is important to not spend too much time in the direct sunlight. This is especially true when it is at the hottest time of the day, when even the strongest SPF may not be enough!

Cleanliness

Skincare is more than just washing your face every morning and evening. It is cleaning, showering, treating, and properly drying off regularly - depending on your skin type and activity you may need to do this more or less. There are certain things to consider when setting a skin care routine:

  1. Skin Type

If you have particularly oily skin, or if you suffer from dry patches, the type of cleansers, body wash, and moisturisers you use will vary. This is important to know, as you don’t want to create even more oil or dryness.

  1. Activity Level

If you are more active, you are likely to perspire more. This means that you should be washing more regularly to prevent skin issues.

It is also very important to dry your skin properly. Whether it’s your face or body, rubbing too vigorously can cause pulling on your skin which can result in the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Diet and Hydration

Our skins condition can be heavily affected by the food we consume and the amount of water we drink. Greasy, fatty foods can result in acne prone skin, and those who drink more water often have clearer skin too.

Hot Tubs and Skin Care

The steam from a hot tub soak can also benefit your skin in many ways. It can open pores, which helps loosen any buildup dirt and release trapped sebum, dead skin cells, bacteria, and other impurities that clog the pores and contribute to acne. Increased blood flow and circulation also nourish the skin with oxygen, bringing out a natural healthy glow in your skin. Do consult your dermatologist to see if your skin type is suitable or if you have sensitive skin.
