How To Stay Sun-Safe This Summer

It’s the best time of the year. The time we get to live outside, and enjoy the beautiful weather and long, sunny days. But just because you enjoy the sun, doesn’t mean your skin or body does. As you get ready for the weekend, remember the following tips below.

Staying Sun-Safe Outdoors

Wear (and reapply) Sunscreen

Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before you step outside and reapply throughout the day as needed. Remember, SPF numbers work based on how long it takes you to personally burn due to the harmful UV rays. If your skin burns quickly when exposed to the sun, buy a high number SPF. If you are planning on enjoying a cooled down Beachcomber Hot Tub soak or a dip in the pool, remember to invest in a waterproof sunscreen that keeps your skin protected.

Stay Hydrated

The more your body heats up, the more you need to keep yourself hydrated. Before you step outside, make sure to drink a full glass of water, and have a bottle with you in your bag. Listen to your body, and when you feel it’s getting too hot, take a break from the sun.

Create Shade

Any well designed outdoor space includes shaded zones. We often ask owners about their installation plans for their new hot tubs, and we always enjoy them to find a spot with a level of shade or invest in a large umbrella that provides flexible shading when the sun’s rays are too strong. Permanent backyard solutions include a pergola or gazebo. On a more individual level, slap on a hot! It’s best to wear a wide-brimmed one, so you’re covered from every angle. A baseball cap might keep the sun from your eyes, but it doesn’t protect your neck, ears or face.

Plan your time in your hot tub or pool

Remember, the sun is strongest between 10 am – 4 pm, so try to avoid being out too long during these times. It’s best to enjoy your hot tub in the earlier morning, or in the evening and night, to avoid exposure to an excess of UV rays. Don’t spend too much time in it at once. 15 minutes is all you need to get your daily therapeutic boost.
